Cassandre Beaugrand took a major scalp at WTCS Cagliari, as the French star held off Lisa Tertsch in a sprint finish and took down reigning world champion Beth Potter in a ferocious 10km run battle.

Beaugrand, who had never previously won an Olympic distance WTCS event, looked under pressure for much of the run, but showed incredible resilience to hang on to the front group until she was within striking distance of the finish.

Powering down the blue carpet, the French poster girl got a major boost as she aims to win gold in front of a home crowd at the Paris Olympics this summer.
