Lots of Tri(Du)athlon connections in the Women’s National 25-mile TT Champs
South Wales on Saturday afternoon / evening, and the notoriously (potentially) fast R25/3H course in Hirwaun hosted one of the strongest in-depth RTTC National 25-mile Time Trial Championships in recent years. Feedback was that conditions were not ideal for blistering times.
As I’ve highlighted a few times already this year, the medals at the National TT Champs have regularly had strong multisport connections, featuring past or present triathletes / duathletes excelling in the single-sport format. Yesterday followed that trend.
The event was won by defending champion, race favourite and competition record holder, Hayley Simmonds, but behind Hayley there were several recognisable names from the pages of Tri247 very closely bunched.

In second place (and part of the Gold medal winning DRAG2ZERO team), we’re pretty sure that Racheal Elliott is a former Team GB Age-Group Duathlete, who finished sixth at the ETU European Championships in Limerick, Ireland (RESULTS). 51:43 for Rachael yesterday gave her the Silver by just two seconds over Anna Turvey. Anna has an extensive multisport background, earning four medals at ETU / ITU level (PROFILE), before racing in the Commonwealth Games for Scotland in the Time Trial and individual Pursuit. She now races for Ireland.

We’ve highlighted Kate Allan this year (interview HERE). After winning the ’50’ and Silver in the ’25’, she missed the podium this time around by just five seconds, recording 51:50, on the same course we she covered in 51:10 just two weeks ago.

Ninth place went to Molly Patch (53:35), a former British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Duathlon Champion, with the top-10 rounded out by Pro triathlete Kimberley Morrison, who would surely have been faster than her 54:25 clocking had she not dropped her chain within the first 10 seconds of her ride.
