Great athletes becoming promoters in their own right is nothing new (Floyd Mayweather Jr anyone?) and Jan Frodeno is doing it again for SGRAIL100 in Spain next month.
The German superstar has already made a great success of staging events this year for that head-to-head Tri Battle Royale with Lionel Sanders in Germany in mid-July.
Not only did Frodeno and Sanders manage to get the eyes of the world trained on the Allgäu region for the best part of the week, he also delivered on course as well by smashing his own record ironman distance best time with 7:27:53.
Now, with the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona shelved until May 2022 (in St George) at the earliest, Frodeno has turned his attentions to something closer to home – a new event in his Spanish base of Girona.
The German mooted the idea of putting on an event to his huge social media fan base recently, and he says 93 percent were up for it. So now here it is – SGRAIL100, set for October 31 in Girona.
What is SGRAIL100?
The clue is kind of in the name – a 100km adventure race that mixes swim, gravel and trail. Gravel of course is en vogue right now on the back of Alistair Brownlee taking on Badlands and the British Gravel Championships in the last month.
The event though gets underway with a 2km swim on a loop, starting at Cadaqués and finishing back there. After that we have an 88km gravel course on the bike, from Platja gran – Cadaqués to Torres desvern – Celrà .
SGRAIL100 then culminates in a 10km trail run which ends fittingly at Frodeno’s La Comuna café in Girona.
When does the race take place?
Like we said, it all goes down on Sunday October 31, and everything kicks-off with the swim starting at 0900 local time (0800 UK).
How much does it cost to take part?
The cost for an individual registration is €200, and entry does come with a “fully loaded” goodie bag.
