Young Brits secure ETU Junior Cup podiums in Latvia

While the past weekend was a relatively quiet one on the international racing front (something that changes for the week ahead…), there was a big British Junior contingent racing in Latvia.

The Riga ETU TriathlonJunior European Cup saw 17 athletes racing against the best of Europe’s Juniors, many in preparation for the upcoming World Junior Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Junior winner last week at the Parc Bryn Bach Tri in Tredegar, Sophie Green took Silver this week at international level to Bianca Seregni (ITA), who recently won (both Junior and Senior), the ETU European Aquathlon Championship title in Targu Mures. Riga has been a good event for Green, who finished third at the same venue 12 months ago. Green was part of a breakaway trio with Seregni and fellow Brit Eden Schiller, starting the run with a one minute advantage over the chasers.

In the Junior men’s race, Hamish Reilly was the top Brit. Like Sophie, he was able to break clear in a trio on the bike alongside Saxon Morgan (NZL) and Valdemer Solok (DEN) and holding strong on the run to maintain a podium slot, finishing third.
