Race #1 takes pole position at the (Age-Group) IRONMAN 70.3 Oman

Liz Duncombe finishes ahead of a 6-time IRONMAN World Champion…

The second edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Oman took place on Friday in Muscat. The Age-Group only event saw Great Britain’s Elizabeth Duncombe achieve the ‘match your finish position to your race number’ game – which is impressive, when you start with bib #1.

Duncombe set the fastest female bike time of the day (2:23:27), which was just over a minute quicker than triathlon legend – now aged 53 – Natascha Badmann (SUI). After starting with a relatively modest 34:30 swim, that still left the Brit four minutes down on the quickest overall time at T2, but a 1:30:13 run – also the quickest – saw her finish as F30-34 winner and overall champion by almost exactly seven minutes. That matched her effort in December 2019 when she was also the fastest female overall at IRONMAN Argentina Mar Del Plata.

The fastest British male athlete was Rhys Flint. Seventh overall, he also took victory in the M25-29 division. Plenty more British podium results too – check them all out below.
