Triathlon legend Jan Frodeno took the tape for the first time in over two years at IRONMAN 70.3 Andorra, as the 41-year-old great capped off a big week of training with a win.

The Olympic champion, who has twice just missed out on the podium with fourth-place finishes in Ibiza and Hamburg this year, shared his delight at taking the top step this weekend.

He will now head to his next race in Milwaukee full of confidence, as he looks to secure a maiden PTO win at the PTO Tour US Open in August.

“It is just so cool to have a nice day”

Admitting that it had been some time since he last stood on top of the podium, Frodeno was all smiles in a post-race debrief on Instagram, as the German underlined just how great it was to race injury-free.

“Here we are at home, it has been a while between drinks to be honest and this race was honestly an epic test before Nice [IRONMAN World Championships].

“It is just so cool to have a nice day, everything feels alright and nothing hurts, and it’s just one step at a time to get back to shape, but man it feels so good to hold a finishing tape.

Frodo praises ‘machine’ Schomburg

“Big congrats to Jonas [Schomburg] who was a machine on the bike, he decided to take a few more risks on the descents so I ended up running it home, which is great, so happy days!”

The multiple time world champion, who is chasing one last win this September in Nice, looks to be progressing in the right direction, and if all goes well, will be a force to be reckoned with in Milwaukee next month.
