Alice Hector heads British podium success in Israel

A third ISRAMAN 113 victory for Alice

The winner in both 2014 and 2016, Great Britain’s Alice Hector returned to Israel again today to make it another early season victory at the 2018 edition of ISRAMAN Eilat. Racing in the half-distance ‘113’ event, she didn’t quite manage her hoped for ‘Sub-5’ goal on the very challenging course – but she did finish sixth overall; “been a LONG time since I felt as solid as that in a race!”, she said.

Second place went to another Brit, Tara Grosvenor, the winner in November of the BallBuster Duathlon and also an Age-Group Bronze medallist at the ETU Middle Distance European Championships in Denmark last year.

While Alice repeated her victory in the 113, the full distance (226) event also saw a repeat of his 2016 third place for Hywel Davies. The multi-talented Davies, who has held world records for indoor rowing, been all but unbeatable in the world of cross training and won everything from Sprint to Double-Iron in his varied sporting career, survived a puncture this time around and a very tight battle for third over the final 5km, to complete the podium. Germany’s Till Schramm took the win, his 9:39:20 time a true reflection of the challenge that athletes face at ISRAMAN.

With a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the run of positions from British athletes added a ‘4th’ in the women’s iron-distance (226) race courtesy of Victoria Nealon. Both Nealon and Grosvenor are coached by Hywel.
