IRONMAN Frankfurt 2024 saw a massive and stacked men’s Pro field go into action on Sunday (August 18) but there were differing fortunes for the big names expected to play a starring role.

Kristian Blummenfelt, who 13 days ago had been racing the super sprint format in the Mixed Relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics, was sensational in romping to a brilliant victory. That despite a stop in a Porta Potty and throwing up mid-stride on the run.

But the rest of the marquee names in the field did not have it quite so good, with Patrick Lange, Sam Long and Trevor Foley among the most high-profile.

It was a day which ended with some surprise names joining Blummenfelt on the podium, while Foley’s first trip to Europe ended in a DNF and Lange and Long failed to produce their best performances.

It was an epic day of action, one where some 29 men went under 8 hours. It should be remembered though that per the broadcast team, the bike course was short at around 178km rather than the normal 180km for a full-distance race.
