Ibiza ETU Multisport European Championships Festival Update
ETU Cross Duathlon European Championship News
Having raced on the road over Sprint (Saturday) and Standard distance (Sunday) formats, the final run-bike-run discipline of the Ibiza ETU Multisport European Championships Festival took place on Tuesday. Off-road and mountian bikes this time for the ETU Cross Duathlon European Championships – with Cross TRIathlon to follow on Thursday – the event was held at Puerto de Sant Miquel de Balansat, with the transition area, start and finish on the beach.
Second at the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships in Fyn, Denmark earlier this year, it would not be a good day for British Elite athlete, Nicole Walters. Well off the pace and sixth at the finish, she’s got 48 hours to put that behind her and come back stronger in her preferred swim-bike-run format. After a good season including wins on the XTERRA Tour, she has the ability to do that.
The British Age-Group team added a further 10 medals to the huge haul already collected in the road format. The fastest British female Age-Grouper, Kim Baptista (18-19), added Gold in Cross Duathlon to her Silver on Saturday in the Sprint Duathlon. That makes her the first Brit – so far – to collect two medals at the Festival.
