Hayden Wilde claimed his second Oceania Triathlon Cup win in two weeks as he reigned supreme at Mt Maunganui on Sunday – and he will be gunning for a third this weekend.

The Olympic bronze medallist overcame Janus Staufenberg and Dylan Mccullough at Three Mile Bay to follow up on his victory at New Plymouth the weekend prior.

Wilde, who is chasing Commonwealth Games spots in both triathlon and the 5,000m, will be looking to make it three on the bounce when he takes on the Taupo race on Sunday.

‘Another plan going right’

The New Zealander, who also has a win at Marra Sprint Triathlon under his belt this year, was complimentary of the Mt Maunganui event on Instagram.

“Happy with the performance and another plan going right,” he wrote. “This time the plan was to run hard off the bike.

“Excellent fast flat 5k course. 7 dead turns made it hard work but happy with the feeling off the bike.

“Fantastic to see the locals come and watch @tritauranga and @triathlonnz fantastic event, a great venue. Cool opportunity to race in the bay where I grew up!”
