Race images from Challenge Almere-Amsterdam
The 2018 edition of Challenge Almere-Amsterdam took place last Saturday, possibly the longest running event in Europe. Host last year to the ETU Long Distance Triathlon Championships (won by Joe Skipper), this years race saw Slovenia’s Jaroslav Kovacic – third 12 months ago – break the long-standing record of Jan van der Marel (NED) of 7:57:46, to take the win and join the Sub-8 Club with a winning time of 7:55:44. Second place went to Australia’a Cameron Wurf, the Kona bike course record holder who continues to progress his all-round triathlon ability, finishing with a 2:52:25 marathon.
The women’s race saw another victory for Yvonne van Vlerken (NED), her third in Almere. No extending her impressive ‘most sub 9’s’ record however, the clock stopping at 9:00:03 this year. Scotland’s Debbie Greig raced well for fourth place in her first attempt at the distance.
