First Look: Socks to Save the World

Rockay was created by runner Daniel Chabert who saw the need for a sustainable clothing company to produce great quality products whilst doing their bit for the planet.

It’s estimated that every year over 80 million tonnes of plastic is thrown into the oceans and the textile industry can help clean this up by turning it into fabric for clothing.

Rockay source fabrics that can be recycled and by turning waste plastic into materials which are knitted into a super high density knit, giving these sports socks both increased durability as well as a softer feel. The Razer Trail and Agile socks we got our hands on are made from 100% recycled material and created with upcycled ocean waste.

Another ecological feature of the socks is the Polygiene treatment that allows several wears of the socks between washes, just let them dry out between use and that means less washing! That could be very useful on a post lockdown ultra run or those back to back Ironman events you’re planning.

As you’d imagine the packaging is also recycled and recyclable. Truly socks to save the planet!

All very well being all eco but are they any good? Well comfort is great, the material is nice to the touch and seems suitably hard wearing. Time will tell but the fine knit suggests they will keep their shape and last you many miles. With that in mind if you register your Rockay sock purchase on their website you can benefit from a lifetime guarantee. A nice touch.

There is a big range of socks and compression items available and so far they have been well received. They are a premium product but factor in the ecological angle, lifetime guarantee and the promised hard wearing nature of the socks means that they might be the best value socks you buy!
